A little bit about Asha
When Asha applied for the Joe Michell award last year, her goal was to become an early childhood teacher. Now Asha is half way through Year 12 at St Mark’s Anglican College, her chosen career pathway has changed, with Clinical Psychology being at the forefront of her mind.
Asha who is driven to help people told us, she has been influenced and inspired by her mother who is a school psychologist. “I have always been interested in how the mind works and helping people too, so I think I’ll like studying Clinical Psychology” Asha said.
Asha is currently completing her Uni-Prep course, funded through the scholarship, which will give her a head start on knowing what to expect from university life.
"It’s been a challenging year going from normal school, to online learning and then back to school. I’m just really happy we had go to have our school ball before the restrictions started. We really had such a great time celebrating," she said.
With the transition back to school, there have been a few permanent changes that have affected Asha’s practical assessments for the rest of the school year. One of the major changes is to her final Drama assessment, which was to be the end of year school production.
The production by year 12 students is a group collaboration used to farewell graduating students, is no longer going ahead. Students will be instead performing solo scenes for their assessment,
“I am a bit disappointed that we don’t get to do the production as that is something we work towards and look forward to in our final year.” Asha said.
Asha will be applying to universities to start in 2021, we wish her all the best for the rest of her year 12 studies.
